Heol-y-Cyw get ready to welcome Skewen RFC
Heol-y-Cyw will return to league action this week after a week's break following their opening game against Builth Wells RFC. The Cyw will take on Skewn in front of their home crowd for the first time this season. Both sides will look to get back to winning ways following defeats in their opening contests. In a competition where every point matters, it has all the makings of a phenomenal game, as Heol-y-Cyw return home for the first time.
Heol-y-Cyw last time
As previously stated, Heol-y-Cyw took on Builth Wells in their opening game. It was always going to be a tough challenge as Builth Wells were pushing for promotion last season, and are a formidable side at home. The first half was tight, with only two points separating the sides going into the break. A try from Evan Jones and Dan Phillips’ boot kept the side in touching distance. However, the home side pulled away in the second half; Heol-y-Cyw defended with heart, but it wasn't enough as Buith Wells secured a 37-11 victory. It may not be the result Heol-y-Cyw wanted, but throughout the contest it was clear they could create, and they were always willing to leave everything out on the pitch. The hunt is on to get back to winning ways as they welcome Skewen to the village.
Skewen RFC
Last season, Skewen finished eighth in the table with 41 points, amassing six wins, two draws and 10 defeats; their heart was on full display as they edged Vardre in a razorthin relegation battle. They opened their campaign with a 64-19 defeat to Neath Athletic; tries from Jamie Kirkhouse and Kai Morgan weren’t enough to stop a prolific Neath Athletic. Like Heol-y-Cyw, they will be looking to bounce back in a big way and get a win.
The league
Of course, both teams will be looking for points to get out of the bottom half of the table. The league itself is set to be an interesting competition. Based on the opening performances, Neath Athletic and Builth Wells seem like the front runners. That's right: alongside the Heol-y-Cyw clash, fans should keep an eye on Neath Athletic versus Ystalyfera, as even this early in the season could have big title implications. As previously stated, it looks to be an exciting clash between Heol-y-Cyw and Skewen as both teams work to prove themselves.
