Heol-y-Cyw will return to Division One West Central action as they prepare to face Ystalyfera RFC. The side is still on the hunt for their first victory of the campaign. Two sides with plenty of heart and desire. Plenty of positives can be taken from the Cyw’s previous clashes. They will look to turn those positives into results. It is an important clash on Saturday as Heol-y-Cyw will be desperate for a victory; one thing is a certainty: the home crowd will be in full voice.
Last time out
In Heol-y-Cyw’s last clash, they travelled to Nantyffylon. It was a beautiful day for rugby, with a real sense of autumn trying to break through. The contest was tough, with both teams having their chances; tries from Iwan Bartlet, Lewis Gibson and Lloyd Wilson weren’t enough as the opposition came away with a well-earned victory. The mountain was always going to be tough to climb, as Heol-y-Cyw entered the contest with 14 players. It was a valiant effort, but ultimately Nantyffylon proved to be too strong on that Saturday. Heol-y-Cyw will now be in pursuit of a massive result, as the table is beginning to take shape. You feel like Heol-y-Cyw are on the verge of a big game, looking to make a home crowd happy; it has all the makings of a good one.
Coaches’ thoughts
Steve Roberts gives his thoughts on the campaign so far and the game ahead.
“We’ve had a tough start, and we haven’t played a full 80 minutes with 15 men yet and again this week have players unavailable, but that’s sport. It also gives others a chance to step up and show what they can do.
“We know we’re better than our results have shown. The belief is still there in the squad, and the determination is unquestionable.
“Now it’s about hard work, character and sticking together. We need that first win, and we’re going to keep pushing until we get it. When it comes, I believe it can be the spark that turns our season around.”
Heol-y-Cyw will be looking to get back to winning ways, but Ystalyfera are coming off winning momentum.
Ystalyfera RFC
Ystalyfera will be looking to build from a massive 50-10 victory over Skewen RFC. The side come to village sitting fourth in the table with two wins and one loss. They will be on the prowl for the full five points to establish themselves as title contenders.
We are set for a fantastic clash tomorrow, as both teams will be determined to win.
